Sixth- and seventh-grade students can now apply for the 2018 VC PREP to be held June 7-July 24.
Applications are now being accepted for sixth- and seventh-grade students to participate in Victoria College’s 2018 VC PREP academic enrichment program to be held June 7-July 24.
VC PREP is a seven-week program for students wishing to master high-level science, technology, engineering and mathematic (STEM) concepts. The 2018 VC PREP will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays. Students will make friends, tour labs, interact with industry professionals and explore Victoria College’s Main Campus.
“This is a great opportunity for students to continue gaining knowledge during the summer that will prepare them for STEM careers,” said VC Pre-College Programs and Recruitment Coordinator Sabrina Romo.
A Parent Orientation meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 23 at 5:30 p.m. at VC’s Emerging Technology Complex located at 7403 Lone Tree Road in Victoria.
The program is presented over the course of four summers and includes coursework, team projects, class presentations, examinations, career awareness speakers, field trips and special events. Elective credits may be earned upon successful completion to apply to a student’s high school credits.
Last year, 87 middle and high school students completed the seven-week program, which is also sponsored by the Victoria Independent School District and the Texas Workforce Commission.
Applications can be completed at VictoriaCollege.edu/VCPrep. Students must submit two reference forms – one from the student’s math teacher and the other from the student’s English or science teacher, or counselor. Applicants must also include their most recent report card and type a 100- to 200-word statement on why they want to attend VC PREP.
