Victoria College’s Gonzales Center will offer Nurse Aide and Medication Aide courses this fall.
The Nurse Aide course will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 21 through Nov. 8. The course will prepare students for entry level nursing assistance at long-term care facilities. Students who complete the course will be eligible to take the Texas Nurse Aide Registry Exam.
The cost for the Nurse Aide course is $635, which includes the textbook and certification exam.
The Medication Aide for Nurse Aide course will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 15 through Dec. 12. The course will provide instruction in preparing and administering designated medications by non-licensed nursing personnel employed by licensed healthcare agencies. Students must be Certified Nurse Aides, and be eligible to take the Texas Health and Human Services Medication Aide Certification Exam at the end of the course.
Medication aides administer prescribed medicines to residents of long-term facilities and monitor for adverse reactions to medicines.
The cost for the course is $675, which includes the textbook and certification exam.
The average starting salary for a nurse aides and medication aides is $18,000-$25,000, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.
Pre-registration is required for both courses. The deadline to register is Thursday, July 19.
